Yahyo choʻmdiruvchining vaʼzi
1 Qaysar Tiberiy hukmronligining oʻn beshinchi yili edi. Yahudiya viloyatida Poʻntiy Pilat hokim edi . Jalila hududida Hirod , Itureya bilan Traxonitis hududlarida Hirodning ukasi Filip, Avilina hududida Lisaniyas hukmronlik qilar , 2 Xanan va Kayafas esa oliy ruhoniy edilar .
Oʻsha vaqtda choʻlda yashayotgan Zakariyoning oʻgʻli Yahyoga Xudoning soʻzi keldi. 3 U Iordan daryosi atrofidagi yerlarni kezib, odamlarga: “Gunohlaringizdan tavba qilib, suvga choʻminglar, shunda Xudo gunohlaringizni kechiradi”, deb vaʼz qilardi. 4 Shu tariqa Ishayo paygʻambar oʻz kitobida yozgan quyidagicha bashorati amalga oshdi:
“Choʻlda bir ovoz yangramoqda:
«Egamizga yoʻl hozirlang,
Unga toʻgʻri yoʻl oching!
5 Har bir jarlik toʻldiriladi,
Har bir togʻu tepalik pasayadi.
Qingʻir–qiyshiq yoʻllar rostlanadi,
Oʻnqir–choʻnqir soʻqmoqlar tekis boʻladi.
6 Butun jonzot Xudoning najotini koʻradi!»”
7 Katta bir olomon suvga choʻmdirilish uchun Yahyoning oldiga keldi. Yahyo ularga dedi:
— Hoy, ilonlar zoti! Boshingizga kelayotgan Xudo gʻazabidan qochib qutulasiz, deb sizlarga kim uqtirdi? 8 Bundan keyin tavbaga yarasha ish tutinglar! Oʻzingizcha: “Biz Ibrohim naslidanmiz”, deb aytishni xayolingizga ham keltirmanglar! Sizlarga shuni aytay: Xudo mana bu toshlardan Ibrohimga avlod tiklashga qodir. 9 Hozirdanoq daraxtlar ildizida bolta yotibdi. Yaxshi meva bermagan har bir daraxt kesilib, olovga tashlanadi.
10 Olomon Yahyodan soʻradi:
— Unday boʻlsa, biz nima qilishimiz kerak?
11 U javob berib, dedi:
— Kimning ikkita koʻylagi boʻlsa, birini koʻylagi boʻlmagan odamga bersin. Kimning oziq–ovqati boʻlsa, u ham ovqati yoʻqlar bilan boʻlishsin.
12 Soliqchilardan baʼzilari ham suvga choʻmdirilish uchun kelib, Yahyodan:
— Ustoz, biz nima qilishimiz kerak? — deb soʻrashdi. 13 Yahyo ularga shunday javob berdi:
— Belgilanganidan ortigʻini odamlardan talab qilmanglar.
14 Baʼzi bir askarlar ham undan:
— Biz–chi?! Biz nima qilishimiz kerak? — deb soʻradilar. Yahyo ularga dedi:
— Birovlarni nohaq ayblab, pul orttirmanglar, maoshingiz bilan qanoatlaninglar.
15 Xalq Masihning kelishini orziqib kutardi. Ular: “Yahyo Masih emasmikin?” degan fikrni koʻngildan oʻtkazishardi. 16 Yahyo ularning hammasiga shunday dedi:
— Men sizlarni suvga choʻmdiryapman. Lekin mendan ham qudratliroq boʻlgan bir Zot ortimdan kelmoqda. Men Uning choriq iplarini yechishga ham arzimayman. U sizlarni Muqaddas Ruhga va olovga choʻmdiradi. 17 Uning panshaxasi qoʻlida tayyor turibdi. U Oʻz xirmonini shopiradi: bugʻdoyni Oʻz omboriga toʻplab, somonni esa soʻnmas oʻtda yondirib yuboradi.
18 Yahyo yana koʻp boshqa nasihatlar berib, xalqqa Xushxabarni eʼlon qilardi. 19 Viloyat hukmdori Hirodning qilmishlarini esa fosh qildi. Chunki Hirod oʻz ukasining xotini Hirodiyaga uylangan va yana boshqa yomon ishlar ham qilgandi. 20 Shunisi yetmaganday, u Yahyoni ham zindonga qamatib qoʻydi.
Iso suvga choʻmdiriladi
21 Butun xalq suvga choʻmdirilayotganda, Iso ham suvga choʻmdirildi. U ibodat qilib turganda osmon ochilib ketdi 22 va Muqaddas Ruh kaptar shaklida Uning ustiga tushib keldi. Osmondan esa: “Sen Mening sevikli Oʻgʻlimsan , Sendan nihoyatda mamnunman ” degan ovoz keldi.

1 Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Cæsar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judæa, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene, 2 Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness. 3 And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins; 4 As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. 5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth; 6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of God. 7 Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. 9 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 10 And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then? 11 He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise. 12 Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do? 13 And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you. 14 And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do?
